SE Area Comps 2007
Added by: Canterbury YFC, May 03, 08:12

South East Area Spring Competitions Weekend 2007 Canterbury members disappeared this weekend to Thame in Oxfordshire to enter the South East Area Spring Competitions to represent Kent in the Basketball competition. We arrived about 4.00 pm Saturday afternoon and booked into the Travel Lodge. This was next to Sleepy Hollow (a building adjacent), Burger King and an Esso Garage a real romantic spot for our Chairman! During the afternoon we had the pleasure of some Gwen Stefanie music in the car park and three girls from Berkshire YFC practised there free style disco dancing for the next 2hrs the general public thought it was quite amusing, 3 girls dancing with umbrellas out the back of a Corsa in a car park. As evening arrived, out came the beer, we dressed up in our best attempts at 70’s outfits, wandered down to the rugby club watched the free style disco dancing which Oxfordshire won. Look forward to seeing a Kent team next year!!! Then it was on with the disco and a great evening was had by all. After certain club members staggered back to the Travelodge we carried on the party with a shaving foam fight! Not such a good idea when it comes to cleaning up! By the way shaving gel has a much better range. We then got some shut eye so we could play basketball in a credible fashion After a few detours, to the venue we had a bit of a practice then got stuck in with the first game against Oxfordshire. Which we surprisingly won! Anyway we had to play Berkshire straight after - that’s an hour of full on basketball! Which was slightly tiring but we managed to have some quality shooting - one basket going in from the halfway line, and with some good team work and passing meant that we won that as well. Luckily we had about an hour’s rest, re-hydrated and had to play Buckinghamshire this was the team to beat. They like us were unbeaten and it was all to play for. We were neck and neck on points up to the last minute and was end to end basketball all game finally we managed to get a few points clear and we won the game! Well done to all Kent members competing. I believe Mascalls YFC did very well winning and Kent came 4th over all.

Canterbury YFC 2005 - 06 End of Year Report Canterbury has had a fantastic year as a club supporting and attending a variety of events. We have achieved and competed in so many events and competitions that our programme has been jam packed. We kicked off with a new members evening, which was a fun evening had by all. As a Club we had a very wide range of speakers and activities including Halloween Walk, Guy Making, Bonfire and Fireworks evening Stock Judging evening. The Girls and Boys evening – The Girls evening in short, the Girls made the boys dress up for a Miss Canterbury Beauty Queen contest for the winner to be crowned “Miss Canterbury” So the first category was swim wear, and the second was free style. All I remember is being rapped in tinfoil having egg boxes gaffer taped to my legs and parading around the pub with Sam, Julian, Adam and Andrew. Subsequently to my horror winning! The boy unfortunately had there week the week before were we were subdued as the idea of Lap dancing was refused, so we settled to games evening, which included the chocolate, and Flour Game, dunk in Donuts etc. Not only was this great fun but it was great team building. The Christmas Meal Farm Walks Beach Barbie Rounder s Grain Harvesters Vicky Bray our Programme Sectary has been outstanding this year producing a wide variety of speakers. We have had some fantastic meeting. Canterbury has had a good year when it comes to Sports and Competitions We competed at the County Pool and Darts Competition where we came 2nd. Ashford let us play in there Five a side tournament which our members really enjoyed. We competed in the Ashford Fat Stock Show, we had two pens of lambs Vicky and Bryony showed a pair of lambs each and got Highly Commended. In the stock judging Vicky came 2nd and Ben and Hattie came 3rd. Jenny and Hattie also came 1st in the Display competetion and won best of show, as well We won the County bowling thanks to Mr Taylor We attended South East Area Competitions in March contributing two members the County Hockey Team and entering the Volley Ball Competition to come third then get disqualified. The South East Area Party was fantastic fun the night before, all six of us really enjoyed it, then the highlight being the Travel Lodge with six in a family room. The County Rally was great fun once again Haggis set a testing course in the blind sheep dog trails, this was a great day as it gave our younger members a chance to meet people there age compete in nature trails etc. They thorouly enjoyed themselves. The Acrise farming Faryre It’s a Knock out proved to be a great hit again this year, with our members competing and enjoying themselves The South East Area Summer Competitions ant Hadlow, was a good evening consisting of camping at the collage having a BBQ and playing football against the collage and then going up to the disco at the hall, A good time was had again by all. The Kent show was a couple of days not to be missed as far as our Club was concerned, we managed to get some commended and 9th place rosettes, but were we are in a league of our own is the fancy dress, I wonder what Sam will dream up next year for fancy dress as he excelled himself again with a full diving suit and a lamb with a Sharks Fin on, to win him a deserved 5th, but well done to Helen Roundtree with her Bumble Bee outfit saw her get second! We competed in the Mock Stock Auction and came second as well In the evening at the Show we had our own PA system and generator so we created a really good atmosphere round our campsite and with the help from Mr Bowley we hosted the Kent show bash. Which everyone seemed to enjoy. Big thanks to Mike Maize from Ash Yfc for transporting our Lambs for us. As well as the Kent Show the club has done a lot of social events including holding its Dinner and Dance at Broom Park, Bryony, Vicky, Hattie and Jenny did a fantastic job organising the event it was once again a fanatic evening. The County Ball was another fantastic social event with at least 20 members of the Club attending. The County Barn Dance was a really good night the members from our club who attended all had a good time.

Canterbury YFC -Kent Show Report 2006 Canterbury Kent Show Team 2006: - Ellen Kincaid Donna Crouch Nick Waldron Maria Jakeman Jenny Crouch Stuart Jakeman Canterbury enjoyed another fantastic year at the show. We showed 6 pairs of lambs and a rabbit in all. In the butchers pairs Donna achieved a commended along with Ellen. In the fancy dress, which after last year’s effort with Sam dressing up as Tinker Bell and Peter the Lamb, there was great expectation and Sam did not disappoint dressing up in full wetsuit and scuba gear, with lamb dressed as a shark winning a deserved 5th. Helen Rountree entered as well dressing as a bumble bee and the lamb as flower, winning 2nd. Congratulations to her. In the mock stock we came 2nd. We managed to achieve a centre spread in the Kentish Gazette (the Canterbury and District Paper) and also got an interview on Radio Kent. Nice bit of publicity! With Ash YFC we hosted the un-official Kent Show bash with the help of Mr Bowley which was a fantastic evening, so much so we did it again the next night. We had 18 members camp at the Kent Show; everyone enjoyed themselves and we are looking forward to next year with great enthusiasm.

Kent Show Report
Added by: Canterbury YFC, Jul 19, 10:49

For those of you who didn't know, Canterbury YFC returned to the Kent Show after several years of absence. Hattie, Jenny and Vicky entered the Butchers Pairs, Lamb Turnout and the Club Display competitions, Sam entered the Fancy Dress Lamb competition, I entered the Teachers Leaders Lamb competition, and a team including Stuart and Andrew (Ben and some of the girlies may also have been involved - I wasn't there to see them) entered the Mock Stock Auction. We also had a very good attendance at the Kent Show Disco. We all owe a huge thank you to Vanessa Mayes for lending us the six lambs and Mike! We all met lots of other Young Farmers from throughout Kent and the social side was excellent. Unfortunately a friendly football match with Kent College resulted in a trip to Maidstone Hospital when someone mistook Vicky's ankle for the ball, but despite a ligament injury and crutches she stayed on at the show and hopped round the turnout class with a well trained lamb. The results? Well sadly the conformation judge didn't appreciate the lambs and so despite all their hard work the girls weren't placed in the butchers pairs, and they knew in advance they didn't really stand a chance in the turnout classes. However, well done to them for their commitment and effort in very hot conditions. Thanks also to Bryony for helping halter train the lambs, and Jenny's dad for transporting most of our kit to and from the show. Sam, delighted at another chance to dress up, took a well deserved 2nd place in the Fancy Dress as Tinkerbell and Peter Lamb. Photo's to follow shortly. Hopefully the Satellite TV got some good footage of that class. I was very pleased with my Very Highly Commended in the Teachers Leaders lamb class (and even more pleased to have escaped from the Secretaries portacabin for a few minutes!). Even our Display Board took a white Commended rosette and place card. And the Mock Stock Auction? It appears that Andy and Stuart are really quite good at valuing machinery, animals and wellies! We have a very nice red rosette, 1st place card, special rosette, and once it is engraved we will have the Lambert & Foster Cup to go in our Trophy cabinet. What a good way to celebrate the clubs 60th Birthday! Well done everyone. Anyone interested in competing next year? Anne
